Research & Collection

The Texas Energy Museum is home to a vast repository of artifacts, documents, and books that chronicle the birth of the modern oil industry. We are currently in the process of bringing these physical treasures into the digital age.

The Museum Collection (Digital Gallery)

We are hard at work cataloging our historical artifacts to make them accessible to the public. Our digital gallery on eHive is a growing window into our vault—from early to modern industrial equipment to the personal papers of the pioneers who shaped Spindletop.

Keep an eye out for rare items like Patillo Higgins’ original field notebooks and early exploration records as we continue to upload new entries.

The Research Library

The Texas Energy Museum Research Library is a comprehensive resources for the study of the petroleum industry. Our non-circulating collection is available for on-site study by appointment and covers the full trajectory of the "Gasoline Era." From the early engineering breakthroughs in drilling and refinery technology to the global economic impact of Texas oil, our holdings document how local discoveries became a worldwide driving force. We house extensive records on the growth of major Southeast Texas energy companies and the foundational history of Spindledtop. You can now browse our catalog online to identify titles for your next project.
